After being away for nearly 4 weeks receiving safety upgrades, the Riddells Creek Fire Brigade welcomed the return of one of its front line fire trucks on Friday.
Our “Pumper Tanker” (pictured below) received a protective spray system, heat shielding panels and protective heat curtains inside the cabin as a part of a state wide program to retrofit these safety features to over 900 CFA fire trucks across Victoria.
Since 2006, these safety features have been a standard inclusion in CFA’s new fire tankers. These features were credited for saving the lives of a number of CFA fire-fighters who’s trucks became trapped during the 2009 Black Saturday Fires. As a result of the investigations into those trucks which became entrapped, it was recommended that all pre-2006 fire trucks be retrofitted to a similar safety standard.
