Focus on fire safety in the kitchen

Now that we’ve approached the middle of winter, the Riddells Creek Fire Brigade are placing added emphasis on the risk of house fires.

3,800 house fires occurred across Victoria last year and over 42% of these started in the kitchen.

Some simple fire safety precautions which we can all take to reduce the risk of kitchen fires include…

  • Never leave cooking unattended;

  • Purchase a fire blanket and fire extinguisher and install them in easily accessible locations. Try to  avoid falling into the trap of leaving them in their packaging or storing them in hard-to-find places.
