Victoria’s fire services, together with Duracell batteries, are urging all householders to change their smoke alarm batteries on Sunday 5th April as part of the annual Change Your Clock, Change Your Smoke Alarm Batteries campaign.
Australia’s fire and emergency services attended more than 12,000 residential fires in 2014. In Victoria alone there are over 3,000 home fires each year.
The Riddells Creek Fire Brigade respond to house fires on more than one occasion each year and in many cases, the homeowners had been made aware of the fires thanks to a working smoke alarm. “Having a working smoke alarm is such a simple life-saving device” said Dean Anderson, brigade Community Safety Manager. “Taking a moment to change the battery over on April 5th may only take a few minutes, but making the time to do this could save the lives of you and your family”.
